Festakt zum Gedenken an Günther Uecker, 10. Juni 2026, Schwerin,
Ceremony and reading in honor of Günther Uecker
On June 10, 2026, marking the first anniversary of Günther Uecker’s passing, the artist, humanistic thinker, and namesake of our institute was honored in Schwerin.
The commemoration began with a ceremony in the Staatliche Museum Schwerin. Representatives from culture, politics, his family, and the public paid tribute to Günther Uecker’s artistic life’s work, his deeply humanistic impact, and his conviction that art carries a responsibility toward society. Speakers included Manuela Schwesig (Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), Jacob Uecker, and Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, who delivered the keynote speech. Dirk Rothbrust performed the percussion piece “The King of Denmark” by Morton Feldman.
It was a great honor for the Günther Uecker Institute to host this special memorial event. And it was a great pleasure to collaborate with the Uecker family as well as our cooperation partners from the SSGK, the Staatliche Museum Schwerin, and the WKM.
In the evening, together with the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Library, we were proud to present the research work of our fellows Raha Golestani and Konstantin Schönfelder, along with their book Im All der Zeichen. Der Semionat Günther Uecker (published by Deutscher Kunstverlag). Thank you to everyone involved and to the many guests who joined us on this day.
